Trusting government information in the age of AI
In the age of generative artificial intelligence being integrated everywhere we look, people are having more difficulty placing their trust in what they see, hear, and read. This distrust is even more pronounced when it comes to trusting government information.
A team of researchers from the Associated Press, NORC Center for Public Affairs Research at the University of Chicago, and USA Facts conducted a poll to understand how Americans feel about facts and where data is sourced.

This study shows that most people don’t trust results generated by AI. These results also show that as state agencies, we can do more to earn the trust of the public when it comes to presenting our own data. We earn public trust by being transparent about our sources and processes as well as reaching out to the public for their participation and buy in.
As always, we strongly encourage everyone to check the sources, look at the data and think things through before trusting anything news or information, including information presented in this article.
