On April 24, 2026, a federal mandate will require all state websites to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) web content and mobile accessibility standards.
In anticipation of this ruling, which requires websites meet compliance standards, ITS has taken several steps to prepare for this:
- Finalizing the purchase of ADA compliance software that will be used to scan state-supported websites. This effort is anticipated to begin this summer.
- Provide agencies with a “health status” from those scans about their website, which highlights areas that may need remediation or improvement insights.
- Provide training for agency staff to learn more about this federal mandate as well as what this means so that your website meets accessibility guidelines.
Shared Responsibility
This effort will require shared responsibility between ITS and each Idaho agency.
While ITS is providing software and will scan agency websites, individual agencies and their web teams have a responsibility to remediate or update some of their content to meet compliance standards.
Training
ITS is hosting a training session Thursday, June 12 from 2-3 p.m. MT via Teams that will cover agency forms and content and what items may be exempt from the federal mandate. Agency employees that manage web content or assets are strongly encouraged to attend. Visit with your Agency IT Liaison for training details.
