On Jan. 6, Governor Brad Little presented his State of the State address, with a focus on larger initiatives, including an increased investment in cybersecurity. ITS will likely have final appropriations for fiscal year 2026 in late March/early April.
Additional highlights and specifics for ITS:
- Modernization of Idaho State Police (ISP) and Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections (IDJC) with addition of 22 positions and related funding
- Creation of a $10 million Cybersecurity and Information Technology Resilience fund
- Includes IT line-item requests and replacements
- Additional high-priority items for ITS
- ITS to own all networking equipment
- ITS to centralize additional IT infrastructure
- Funding to complete the move to Building 4 as planned for October
- Funding of additional vehicle leases for replacements, removal of rental cars, and new on-site support staff
The Governor also recommended increased funding in a supplemental request for FY 2025 to support early setup of office space for new employees from the ISP and IDJC consolidations.
This substantial increase in state General Fund appropriations demonstrates continued support for enhancing IT and cybersecurity services across Idaho and recognizes the hard work and dedication of ITS staff.
ITS has another fund for primary operations which is paid by ITS customers through service billings. That fund has an increase of just 1.6% net of consolidations. The Governor’s recommendation minimizes increased costs to customers.
This demonstrates significant support of ITS and trust that these limited resources will be used responsibly on behalf of customers and taxpayers
