VoIP Team Completes Several Projects

Recently our VoIP team completed several project missions to modernize telephone services that have resulted in significant technology improvements and cost savings. The most recent migrations were for the Idaho Youth Challenge Academy (IDYCA) facility in Pierce, Idaho and the Department of Lands to all offices statewide.

Idaho Youth Challenge Academy added a new barracks (student housing) this summer. Their legacy (Mitel) phone system was completely out of support, as well as capacity, and could no longer support IDYCA’s needs. The VoIP team migrated them to the ITS Enterprise Voice Over IP (VoIP) phone system providing 40 VoIP phones and unified voicemail messaging services to their Administration and Barracks buildings, removing their legacy, unsupported telephone hardware and carrier services and reducing their annual estimated telephone service costs by $3,600.

As for the Department of Lands, this agency had their own Cisco phone system which ITS has been supporting since Lands was modernized last fiscal year. This project included replacement of more than 400 phones in 15 separate offices across the state, and eliminated costs for a separate enterprise licensing agreement. Additionally, the project allowed for the elimination of legacy phone lines estimated to reduce Lands annual ongoing costs by more than $100,000.

Of course, these missions would not be successful without significant cross-team support from the LAN/WAN, firewall and remote support teams.
